ANTINUS: Attempting to string the bow in the trial of strength.

Antinus is the chief suitor for the hand of Penelope in marriage. The story Strange Meeting is set in ancient Greece. Ulysses must travel back in time to meet the first Ulysses and help restore him to the throne of Ithaca.

The first Ulysses has been away from home. During his absence a number of suitors have descended on his palace to ask Penelope to marry them. The most imposing of all the 108 suitors is Antinus. He makes no secret of his wish to see Telemachus, heir to Ulysses's throne, dead and himself as King. Travelling back in time with Ulysses are Telemachus, Yumi and No-No. Needless to say the Telemachus of the thirty-first century meets the first Telemachus, causing Antinus a few headaches. When Antinus threatens in front of Penelope to enslave Telemachus she relents and sets a contest to decide who should be her new husband.

On the wall of Ulysses's palace hangs a bow. Whoever is able to string the bow and shoot an arrow through twelve crossed axes will be the new King of Ithaca. Penelope is confident that none of the suitors, not even Antinus, is able to do it. Antinus is by far the strongest of the suitors, however when it comes to his turn even he cannot string the bow. Throwing the bow to the floor he declares that no one can possibly achieve such a feat. A mysterious beggar shuffles into the hall and stuns everyone when he strings the bow, aims and fires at the axes, his arrow sailing cleanly through them without so much as brushing even a single axe. The beggar reveals himself to be the Ulysses of the thirty-first century. Behind him stands the first Ulysses, whose injured arm prevented him from firing the arrow himself. Antinus is ready for battle, however when the Ulysses of the thirty-first century takes to the air Antinus is quickly subdued and accepts that his King has returned.
