| Mercurius | MerkorioV | Nérus |
He cannot get the jewel himself as no god is able to approach Atlas without waking him. If Atlas wakes from his meditation the universe is destroyed. Mercurius enlists the help of Ulysses by offering him the route back to Earth and freedom for his companions if he gets the jewel and brings it to him. As a mortal, Mercurius reasons, Ulysses should be able to approach Atlas and take the jewel without waking him.
Mercurius watches intently as Ulysses climbs the sleeping giant and removes the jewel from his forehead. Unfortunately for Mercurius just as Ulysses removes the jewel Atlas wakes up, throwing the universe into disarray.
