Meropae is the wife of Sisyphus, King of Corinth. In The Eternal
Punishment she warns Sisyphus not to embark on his journey to the
Desert of the Tartars to discover the secret of immortality. She is
fearful of what the gods might do to him. Sisyphus, however, ignores
his wife's sound advice and, sure enough, is punished by Zeus for his
impertinence.
