The Swamp Phantoms inhabit a marshy planet. Ulysses and his friends encounter them in the episode Phantoms from the Swamp when a meteor from Yumi's home planet, Zotra, flies close by the Odyssey.
Mindful of the occasion in The Lost Planet when Numinor was brought back to life by a close encounter with the Seventh Satellite of Zotra, Yumi implores Ulysses to follow the meteor and recover it.
When Ulysses and Yumi land in a shuttlecraft near the point of impact they find themselves in a nightmarish world of marshes, bogs and bubbling swamps.
The Phantoms soon appear. In their natural form they are tall columns of mud, however as Ulysses and Yumi discover to their horror they are able to change shape at will. The Phantoms metamorphose themselves into duplicates of Ulysses and Yumi. Two of these return to the Odyssey on a mission to take over the ship. Having disconnected the communicator their attempts at integrating with the rest of the crew get off to a bad start as the Phantom masquerading as Ulysses acts totally out of character and relies on Telemachus to pilot the Odyssey.
Yumi's double does little to dispel Telemachus's and No-No's suspicions when she orders a moss and dragonfly cocktail instead of her usual fruit juice. Telemachus reactivates the communicator to discover Ulysses and Yumi still on the planet's surface. Ulysses returns in a second shuttlecraft and causes the Phantoms to self-destruct by getting them to copy his image, projected onto the Odyssey's central screen, while Yumi distorts the image too quickly for them to keep up.
Although the Phantoms are defeated in their objective to take over the Odyssey Ulysses, realising the good fortune of his lucky escape, leaves the meteor unclaimed at the bottom of the swamp.
